FAQs

I don’t live in the UK. Can I still take the MSRA?

Yes. The MSRA is conducted worldwide at Pearson VUE test centres. Availability may vary, and you may need to travel to the nearest centre. Some countries are restricted due to sanctions—check the Pearson VUE website for details.

Can I take the MSRA remotely?

Yes, but only in exceptional circumstances. Requests are reviewed individually, and details will be provided in your MSRA invitation. Please note that some countries are restricted from both centre-based and remote testing due to sanctions. For more information, visit the Pearson VUE website.

Is Round 1 or Round 3 more competitive?

Entry to GP Specialty Training is highly competitive, and much depends on your preferred training region. Competition ratios for each NHSE Local Office or deanery are usually published for Round 1, and these can be useful to review. London consistently remains the most competitive region. Round 1 generally offers a larger number of posts, while Round 3 has significantly fewer opportunities available.

I am registered with the GMC but have temporarily relinquished my licence to practise. Can I still apply?

Yes, you can apply for GP ST1, but you must hold a full licence to practise before your training start date.

Is there a limit on the number of times I can apply to GP Training, and will reapplying affect future applications?

No, there is no limit on the number of times you can reapply. However, you may only submit one application for all available GP ST1 posts in each round. Withdrawing an application or offer before starting a programme will not affect your future applications.
